Mission & Social Concerns Committee

Our committee seeks to offer opportunities for our congregation and church friends to participate in a variety of ways to serve and share God’s love both locally and globally.

The opportunities for service and sharing God’s love are many and some of them may call to you and some may need to be suggested by you.  Our committee meets every 3rd Wednesday at 2:30 in the Baines Conference Room.  We welcome you to meet with us.

Adopting a 2nd Grade Classroom at Dodgertown Elementary School: Our Local Community Mission
We are seeking volunteers to read with these little children 1 hour a week. So far we are scheduled on Monday through Friday at 10:30am and at 2:30pm. These children will be tested for their reading competency in the 3

rd grade and must pass this test or remain in the 3rd

grade.  This is a challenge because many children do not have English speaking parents and/or their parents work multiple jobs and may not have time to read with their children.  Our efforts are to see to it that we can make a difference for these children so that they can be successful.
Please call Carol Smoyer at 567-0929 or email at clsmoyer@bellsouth.net subject: “reading with 2nd
grade.”  Donations may be made to 1st Presbyterian Vero with Dodgertown in the memo.

The Source is a kitchen here in Vero on Commerce Ave. providing food for the homeless.   Every 3rd and 4th Thursday volunteers from our church prepare a meal for about 50-60 homeless and take it to the Source where it is served.  The Source ministers to the homeless, indigent and those in critical need.  The goal is to instill hope and motivation for improving their lives, and to assist them in obtaining the resources necessary to become productive citizens and achieve lasting life recovery.  If you would like to volunteer to cook and/or serve meals please contact Mike Ross at 971-3485.
